The Salon Upstairs Colour Allergy Test Policy
All our hair colour services that include any colour product mixed with
developers require a colour allergy patch test. It is the hair colour
ingredients, such as a chemical called PPD (paraphenylenediamine), which
is a known irritant and allergen to some people. Should you know that
you have allergy reactions to this chemical or have had previous
reactions to colour, please advise us.
This test is to be carried out 48 hours before the hair colouring
appointment. We ask you to visit the Salon for a 5-minute appointment to
have a pea-sized amount of colour product placed on the inside of the
elbow. This is due to the client being able to see and monitor the test
for any adverse reaction. The test needs to stay on the skin for 45 mins
before rinsing so the client could stay in the salon for that time or
alternatively enough time for the test to dry on to the skin. Should you
receive no reaction to the test, we can proceed with your hair colouring
service. Should you receive a reaction in the form of redness, itching,
swelling we CANNOT proceed, and please wash the product off straight
away. Please be sure to let us know your result.
The colour allergy patch test lasts for 6 months and then we will ask
for you to again have a patch test. For all new clients to the salon, we
will offer a colour allergy patch test.
We will not carry out any colour services for anyone under the age of
16, this is in coordination with our salon insurance but also EU
guidelines. Please speak to the salon manager if you have any concerns
or would like to discuss this further.
It has been over two years since the COVID-19 outbreak and many people
have been infected with the virus. It has been reported that some
people’s colour allergy patch test reactions have changed. Therefore,
should you have tested positive for COVID-19 at any time, we will ask
you to again have your colour allergy patch test.
If you have had any new tattoos, semi permanent make-up should mean a
colour allergy patch test should be carried out again.
We at The Salon Upstairs hope that you will advise us so we can act
safely for your hair colouring appointment. A patch test is required 48
hrs before any hair colouring appointment. We have to advise that we
cannot accept any responsibility for a skin reaction to a hair colour
service if you have not advised us of a positive test or expressed any
concerns about your well-being. Please discuss any concerns you have
with us before your appointment or at the time of making an appointment.
Thank you.
Should you be a new client to our salon or have not had a colour service
within the last 6 months at our salon, our usual colour skin patch
testing still applies.
